1、 Overview of QBY Paint Coating Pendulum Hardness Tester Equipment:
The pendulum hardness tester is a conventional instrument used in the laboratory to measure the hardness of paint film coatings. Its working principle is: the softer the coating surface in contact with the fulcrum of a swinging rod that swings at a certain period, the faster the attenuation of the swinging amplitude of the swinging rod; On the contrary, the slower the attenuation. Due to the differences in structure, weight, size, swing period, and swing amplitude among various swing rods, as well as the complex elastic and viscoelastic changes under the interaction between the swing rod and the coating, an effective conversion relationship cannot be established between the measurement results of various swing rods. Therefore, when measuring the hardness of coating swing rods in various product standards, it will be indicated that only one type of swing rod is used.

4、 Industry standard for QBY paint film coating swing rod hardness tester:
The pendulum rod hardness tester is designed and manufactured based on the A method in the national standard GB/T 1730-2007, which is equivalent to the international standard ISO 1522-1998 "Paint and Varnish Pendulum Damping Test". The corresponding American Society for Testing and Materials standard is ASTM D4366-95. The BY-I type pendulum hardness tester is suitable for Konig pendulum (K pendulum) and Persoz pendulum (P pendulum). Therefore, the instrument has three configurations: pendulum hardness tester (with K-pendulum), pendulum hardness tester (with P-pendulum), and pendulum hardness tester (with K-pendulum and P-pendulum). Please confirm when ordering.
In most cases, the measurement time of Konig pendulum is close to half of that of Persoz pendulum, indicating that the resolution of Persoz pendulum is superior to Konig pendulum; However, the Persoz swing rod is prone to slipping on hard and slippery coating surfaces, which affects the actual measurement accuracy. It is generally believed that the Konig pendulum is suitable for testing harder coatings, while the Persoz pendulum is suitable for testing softer coatings.
The swing rod hardness tester is used in the testing process of chemical raw materials. Before use, users should establish appropriate safety and hygiene protection measures in accordance with relevant safety regulations and determine rules and regulations. The safety issues related to contact with chemical raw materials should be established by the user and are not within the scope of this manual.
5、 Initial installation of QBY paint film coating swing rod hardness tester:
(1) Place the instrument on a stable and sturdy workbench. Remove the organic glass cover and adjust the instrument level. If using a Konig pendulum, first turn the lever to the right; If using a Persoz pendulum, first turn the lever to the left.
(2) Lower the sample placement table and place a flat glass sheet (randomly provided). Remove the swing rod to be used and clean the spherical contact points of the swing rod with a clean soft cloth. Align the small hole on the swing rod with the positioning pin on the operating table, and place the swing rod (with the side marked with "Konig" or "Persoz" facing forward).
(3) Zero position inspection of ruler: Raise the sample placement platform to clamp the flat glass piece (the swing rod will be raised accordingly, and the spherical contact point will contact the flat glass piece), and after the swing is stationary, check whether the tail of the swing rod is at the zero position of the ruler. If it is not at zero position, adjust the ruler to zero position (already adjusted before leaving the factory).
(4) After positioning the swing rod to the starting position, check whether the tail of the swing rod is at the 6 ° (or 12 °) position of the ruler (adjusted before leaving the factory).
(5) After completing the above checks, remove the flat glass sheet, install the organic glass cover, connect the signal line between the instrument and the control box, and turn on the power supply of the control box. The instrument installation is complete, and the instrument can now be used.
6、 QBY Paint Coating Swing Rod Hardness Tester Operating Instructions:
(1) The instrument control box is used for swing counting control of the swing rod. The 'Select' button is used to set the pendulum shape and must be consistent with the selected pendulum rod. Select "Konig Pendulum" to activate the photoelectric counter on the left side of the instrument (at the 3 ° position of the ruler); Select 'Persoz pendulum' to activate the photoelectric counter on the right side of the instrument (at the 4 ° position of the ruler).
(2) The 'Start' button is used to start the instrument and prepare for counting, while clearing the previous display.
(3) After the counting is completed, the instrument control box will beep and display the oscillation frequency (OSC) and oscillation seconds (sec) in a frozen state. The instrument control box synchronously measures the number of swings and the number of seconds of swings, and displays two results simultaneously for one measurement.
7、 Pre test inspection of QBY paint film coating swing rod hardness tester:
(1) Remove the operating hole cover on the right side of the organic glass cover, clean the spherical contact of the swing rod, place the swing rod on the positioning pin, insert the flat glass sheet, and then cover the operating hole cover again.
(2) Confirm that the horizontal bubble of the instrument is in a horizontal position, and connect the power supply of the instrument control box.
(3) Raise the sample placement table to clamp the flat glass (the spherical contact point of the swing rod is in contact with the flat glass sheet), slowly move the swing rod to the starting swing position (6 ° or 12 ° position of the scale) with the swing rod, use the swing rod positioning/releasing device to position the swing rod, and confirm that the tail of the swing rod is in the corresponding position of the scale.
(4) Press the "start" button on the instrument control box, use the swing rod positioning/releasing device to release the swing rod, and let the swing rod swing back and forth on the flat glass. Confirm that the instrument control box stops counting and beeps at the specified end swing position (3 ° or 4 ° position of the ruler); Confirm that the number of swings using Konig pendulum is between 172 and 185, and the number of swings using Persoz pendulum is ≥ 420.
(6) After completing the above checks, remove the flat glass sheet and proceed with the testing operation. If there are any discrepancies in the above checks, the instrument must be recalibrated.
8、 QBY paint film coating swing rod hardness tester testing operation:
(1) Usually, the entire test should be conducted under laboratory temperature and humidity conditions (temperature 23 ± 2 ℃, relative humidity 50 ± 5%).
(2) Remove the operating hole cover on the right side of the organic glass cover and clean the sample operating table.
(3) Clean the spherical contact of the swing rod and place it on the positioning pin.
(4) Place the test sample (if the test sample is thin, a flat glass sheet can be placed underneath).
(5) Cover the operating hole.
(6) Raise the sample placement table and clamp the test template, then move the swing rod to the corresponding starting position and position it.
(7) First press the "start" button on the instrument control box, and then release the swing rod.
(8) After the instrument control box beeps to indicate the end of the test, record the number of swings and swing time displayed.
(9) Lower the sample placement table, remove the operation hole cover, take out the test sample, and complete one test.
(10) After completing the test, please promptly cover the operating hole cover to reduce dust from entering.
9、 Precautions for QBY paint film coating swing rod hardness tester:
(1) Timely clean the spherical contact points of the swing rod. If the spherical contact is corroded, a new steel ball must be replaced and the instrument recalibrated.
(2) Place the marked side of the pendulum on the control panel facing forward.
(3) When placing the Konig pendulum, first turn the lever to the right; When placing the Persoz pendulum, first turn the lever to the left.
(4) If the positioning button of the swing rod positioning/releasing device cannot lock itself, first press the release button and rotate it counterclockwise to make the release button pop out, then press the positioning button again to lock it.
(5) When testing, press the "start" button on the instrument control box before releasing the swing rod.
(6) The test must be conducted with the organic glass cover in place.
(7) The slight error in the zero position of the swing rod can be adjusted by fine-tuning the four horizontal adjustment feet to calibrate (without affecting the accuracy of the horizontal bubble).
