With the continuous development of China's national economy, the demand for control cables in various industries is also increasing from time to time. By 2020, the total electricity consumption in society will double from today's level. Based on the fundamental national situation of the extremely unbalanced distribution of power capital and consumption power in China, it is imperative to complete the large-scale optimization and control of cable equipment layout for power capital on a large scale. In recent years, the focus of power capital development has occasionally shifted to the western and northern regions, and the scope and interval of cross regional power supply have further increased. The distance between the planned large-scale coal-fired power bases in the western and northern regions, the Northeast hydropower base, and the intermediate load area in the central and eastern regions is between 800 and 3000 kilometers. Relying on the technology of exchanging 750 kV, 500 kV, and DC ± 600 kV and ± 500 kV transmission cannot meet market demand. Ultra high voltage is a highly effective location within the above-mentioned transmission interval scale, with outstanding technical and economic advantages.
Control cables have the characteristics of long economic transmission intervals, low transmission losses, and less land occupation in line corridors. They can promote the intensive development of large coal-fired power plants, flood hydropower plants, nuclear power plants, and large-scale renewable power bases, complete larger scale optimization of power and electricity capital, promote dry purification and low-carbon power supply, and reduce the impact on the situation. The development prospects of control cables in China are broad. As of this morning, the follow-up project of exchanging ultra-high voltage, the "Two Vertical and Two Horizontal" power transmission and transformation project, has fundamentally completed the engineering design and other later tasks. The Jinping Cascade Hydropower Station ultra-high voltage direct current transmission project has been approved, the Xiluo She Hydropower Station ultra-high voltage direct current transmission project has completed its later tasks, and projects such as Ningdong and Hami ultra-high voltage direct current transmission projects are urgently carrying out their later tasks. The prerequisite for slowing down the establishment of control cables is now available.

State Grid Corporation of China has successively built ultra-high voltage direct current, exchange, pole towers, high-altitude experimental bases, and State Grid simulation centers, forming the world's most functional, experimental capable, and skilled ultra-high voltage research and experimental system. Relying on the ultra-high voltage engineering, we have conducted over 300 seminars on the key technical issues of ultra-high voltage, published more than 10 academic monographs on ultra-high voltage, applied to more than 280 countries, discussed and proposed a system of technical specifications for ultra-high voltage exchange and transmission, released 15 national specifications, and published 73 ultra-high voltage exchange and 57 ultra-high voltage direct current enterprise specifications.
