Scope of application
1. The main function of this filter is water turbidity treatment, commonly used for pre-treatment of softened water, electrodialysis, reverse osmosis, and can also be used for turbidity treatment of surface water, groundwater, and other aspects. It can effectively remove suspended solids, organic matter, colloids, sediment, etc. from water.
2. This filtration system can be widely used in the treatment and reuse of turbid water in electronic power, petrochemical, metallurgical electroplating, papermaking and textile, pharmaceutical dialysis, food and beverage, drinking water, factory and enterprise water, swimming pools, etc. It can meet the liquid filtration needs of various industries.
Shallow sand filter is a medium filtration system consisting of one or more speed filtration units. The water flows through the internal water distributor and collector, utilizing different media to effectively remove particulate matter and reduce turbidity. If a certain filter material is installed, such as activated carbon, anthracite, etc., it can also adsorb and remove corresponding organic matter, ions, etc.

1、 Overview of Activated Carbon Filters

Activated carbon is currently a widely used adsorbent, which uses coal, charcoal, fruit kernels, and shells as raw materials. After temperature carbonization and activation treatment, various shapes of micro pores are formed in the lattice structure, forming a porous structure with a large specific surface area (800-2000m2 per gram of activated carbon), thus enhancing its adsorption capacity.

Activated carbon filters can remove organic matter, colloids, heavy metals, residual chlorine and other unpleasant odors from water, reduce the color of water, and are widely used in factory and urban water purification, as well as in the pre-treatment process of reverse osmosis, filtration, ion exchange systems, and improving the inlet water quality of various deep purification equipment.

2、 Working principle of activated carbon filter

The adsorption principle of activated carbon is to form an equilibrium surface concentration on the surface of its particles. The size of activated carbon particles also has an impact on adsorption capacity. Generally speaking, the smaller the activated carbon particles, the larger the filtration area. So, powdered activated carbon has a large total surface area and good adsorption effect, but it is easy for powdered activated carbon to flow into the water tank with water, which is difficult to control and rarely used. Granular activated carbon is difficult to flow due to its particle formation, and impurities such as organic matter in water are also not easily blocked in the activated carbon filter layer. Its adsorption capacity makes it easy to carry and replace.

The adsorption capacity of activated carbon is directly proportional to the contact time with water, and the longer the contact time, the better the filtered water quality. Attention: The filtered water should slowly flow out of the filter layer. New activated carbon should be washed clean before secondary use, otherwise black water may flow out. Before installing activated carbon into the filter, a 2-3 centimeter thick sponge should be added at the bottom and top to prevent large particles such as algae from penetrating. After using activated carbon for 2-3 months, if the filtration effect decreases, new activated carbon should be replaced and the sponge layer should be replaced regularly.

A balanced surface concentration is formed on the surface of activated carbon particles, and then organic impurities are adsorbed into the activated carbon particles. The initial adsorption effect is very good. But over time, the adsorption capacity of activated carbon will weaken to varying degrees, and the adsorption effect will also decrease accordingly. If the water in the aquarium is turbid and contains organic matter, activated carbon will quickly lose its filtering function. Therefore, activated carbon should be cleaned or replaced regularly.

Adsorption principle

Activated carbon is a type of very small carbon particle with a large surface area, and there are even smaller pores and capillaries in the carbon particles. This type of capillary tube has strong adsorption capacity, and due to the large surface area of carbon particles, it can fully contact with gases (impurities). When these gases (impurities) come into contact with capillaries and are adsorbed, they have a purifying effect. The study of surface area of activated carbon is very important. The specific surface area detection data of activated carbon can only be obtained by BET method, which is true and reliable. There are many instruments in China that can only perform direct comparison method detection. The multi-point BET method is uniformly used for specific surface area testing both domestically and internationally. The specific surface area determination developed domestically and internationally is based on the BET testing method. Please refer to the relevant section on the gas adsorption BET principle for determining the specific surface area of solid substances. The specific surface area detection is actually a time-consuming task. Due to the different adsorption abilities of the samples, some sample tests may take a whole day. If the testing process is not automated, the testing personnel cannot leave at all times and must concentrate, observe the dashboard, and operate the knobs. A slight carelessness can lead to the failure of the testing process, which will waste a lot of valuable time of the testing personnel. 3、 Technical points of activated carbon filter

6. Loose requirements for inlet water quality: It can withstand a 150mg/L concentration of SS inlet water quality for a long time, and withstand a 300mg/L concentration of SS impact for a short time without changing the outlet water quality.
