Variable frequency speed regulation technology is related to variable frequency motors, variable frequency power supplies, and connecting cables. The length and cross-section of this cable are not very long, and its insulation performance belongs to the category of power cables. Because the actual working frequency is 30-300 Hz, it is often referred to as variable frequency cables. Currently, cross-linked polyethylene is commonly used as the insulation material.

About thirty years ago, the Cable Research Institute developed and produced intermediate frequency cables, which can also be regarded as the predecessor of current variable frequency cables. Its working frequency is 100-400 Hz, and the power supply equipment is an intermediate frequency generator set driven by a DC motor. The output frequency of the generator is adjusted by changing the speed of the DC motor. The waveform of the intermediate frequency voltage can maintain a regular sine wave shape. At that time, the design idea of cables was to reduce line impedance and skin effect, adopt coaxial cables and expand the inner conductor diameter. The application effect of cables in the metallurgical industry was very good.

The current variable frequency power supply uses thyristor components for frequency modulation, which greatly changes the waveform characteristics and brings new problems to motors and cables.

However, the insulation thickness and process should be taken seriously. Solid insulation is reliable, while wrapped insulation is not suitable.

2. The cable body emits electromagnetic waves externally. Generally, variable frequency household appliances are single-phase powered, with a short length and low power. When designing, the variable frequency power supply, connecting cables, and variable frequency motor are all set in a metal shell to suppress the emission of electromagnetic waves externally. However, in the industrial field, the motor power is relatively high, and the length of the cable connecting the variable frequency motor and the variable frequency power supply is long. During operation, the cable is an effective carrier for high-frequency electromagnetic waves to be emitted outward. It will cause interference to communication tools or amplitude modulation receivers in the surrounding areas (such as radio amplitude modulation bands), and sometimes the situation is quite serious, which is called electromagnetic wave environmental pollution. Foreign countries have already put forward requirements for this type of cable, and domestic countries also attach great importance to it. Currently, various cable factories have formulated enterprise standards, and in the future, industry standards will be uniformly formulated.
