In 2015, the provincial government applied to the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology to designate Fuzhou as a pilot city for NB-IOT. In early June this year, the Fuzhou Municipal Government, Provincial Economic and Information Commission, and industrial chain manufacturers signed a memorandum of cooperation to promote the pilot implementation of NB-IOT in Fuzhou. In September, Fujian Unicom signed a strategic cooperation agreement with the Fuzhou Municipal Government to jointly promote Narrowband Internet of Things (NB-IOT).
With the standardization of end-to-end NB-IOT, Fujian Unicom will conduct end-to-end business testing and verification in key industries such as intelligent meter reading, explore new business operations and business models, and plan to have external demonstration conditions in November this year and scale commercial conditions by the end of the year.
It is reported that NB-IOT just completed the technical standard determination in June this year, and is highly favored by the IoT industry for its advantages of low power consumption, good coverage, and low cost. Even in areas where mobile phone signals are weak and cannot be dialed, it can still work as usual, and the network can support massive IoT terminal access.
