Accelerated solvent extraction (ASE) or pressurized liquid extraction (PLE) is an automated method of extracting solids or semi-solid using organic solvents at higher temperatures (50-200 ℃) and pressures (1000-3000PSI). The increased temperature can greatly weaken the interaction forces caused by van der Waals forces, hydrogen bonds, dipole attraction of target molecules and active sites in the sample matrix. The solubility of liquids is much greater than that of gases, so increasing the pressure in the extraction tank makes the solvent temperature higher than its boiling point at atmospheric pressure. The advantages of this method are low organic solvent dosage, rapidity, minimal matrix influence, high recovery rate, and good reproducibility.
