What should be paid attention to in the daily maintenance and upkeep of the concrete rebound tester
Date: 2025-07-31Read: 1
The concrete rebound tester is a key tool used in building inspection to evaluate the strength of concrete, and its accuracy directly affects the reliability of the inspection results. To ensure the long-term stable operation of the instrument, daily maintenance and upkeep must be strictly controlled from aspects such as cleaning, calibration, loss prevention, and storage. The following are specific precautions:

1、 Cleaning and inspection after daily use

  1. Shell cleaning
    • Tool selectionUse a soft dry cloth or specialized cleaning brush to avoid scratching the surface with sharp tools and prevent scratching or damaging the dial.
    • key areasClean the pointer, zero adjustment screw, button and other parts that are prone to dust accumulation to prevent dust from entering the interior and affecting sensitivity.
    • Chemical cleaning agentsProhibit the use of corrosive solvents such as alcohol and gasoline to avoid damaging plastic or metal parts.
  2. Bullet rod inspection
    • Deformation detectionAfter each use, check whether the striking rod is bent or worn. Minor deformations can be corrected with standard measuring blocks, while severe deformations require replacement.
    • Lubrication treatmentApply a small amount of silicone grease or specialized lubricating oil at the connection between the striking rod and the body to reduce friction and wear.
  3. Pointer and dial
    • Pointer resetEnsure that the pointer can freely return to zero position when not in use. If it is stuck, clean the pointer shaft or replace the spring.
    • Scale clarityWipe the dial with a soft cloth to avoid oil or water stains that blur the reading. If necessary, apply a transparent protective film.

2、 Regular calibration and performance verification

  1. calibration cycle
    • Regular useCalibrate every 3 months (or as required by testing standards).
    • High frequency useCalibrate once a month or immediately after more than 2000 hits.
    • special circumstancesThe instrument needs to be calibrated immediately after being impacted or used in humid environments.
  2. calibration method
    • Standard steel anvil methodUsing a standard steel anvil verified by the metrology department (rebound value range of 80 ± 2), take the average of three consecutive impacts, with an error of ≤± 1.0.
    • Professional organization calibrationEvery year, it is sent to a third-party metrology institution for comprehensive testing and a calibration certificate is issued.
  3. performance verification
    • Consistency testingContinuously bounce the same concrete specimen 10 times and record the range of rebound values (should be ≤ 1.5). If it exceeds the range, check the bouncing rod or pointer mechanism.
    • Calibration value recordEstablish a calibration file to record the date of each calibration, steel anvil value, environmental temperature, and other information for easy traceability and analysis.

3、 Loss prevention and moisture prevention measures

  1. Anti collision protection
    • Carrying Method: Use special instrument box or foam packing box for transportation to avoid collision with hard objects.
    • Operating SpecificationsDuring the impact, keep the instrument perpendicular to the concrete surface and prohibit applying force diagonally to cause the impact rod to bend.
  2. Moisture-proof treatment
    • dry environmentStore in a dry and ventilated place with a relative humidity of ≤ 80% and avoid direct sunlight.
    • Use of moisture-proof agentPlace silicone desiccant inside the instrument box, check and replace any malfunctioning desiccants every month.
    • Moisture treatmentIf the instrument is accidentally damp, immediately disassemble the outer shell, dry the inside with a low-temperature hair dryer, and recalibrate before use.
  3. Dust and corrosion prevention
    • leak testRegularly inspect the sealing ring of the instrument back cover for aging and cracking, and replace it in a timely manner to prevent dust from entering.
    • Corrosive environmentAvoid using in corrosive environments such as acid, alkali, salt spray, etc. After use, rinse with clean water and wipe dry.

4、 Long term storage and preparation before activation

  1. Storage conditions
    • temperature rangeThe storage environment temperature should be between -10 ℃ and 40 ℃ to avoidharshTemperature causes deformation of components.
    • Battery processingIf the instrument has a built-in battery, the battery should be removed and stored separately to prevent leakage and corrosion of the circuit.
  2. Pre activation check
    • Visual inspectionConfirm that the instrument has no cracks, deformations, or loose parts.
    • Functional testingConduct an empty load impact test according to the operation manual to confirm that the pointer moves flexibly and the reading is stable.
    • Calibration verificationRe calibrate the standard steel anvil to ensure that the calibration value meets the requirements.

5、 Common faults and troubleshooting methods

fault phenomenon Possible reasons treatment method
Pointer stuck or not moving Dust entering the pointer shaft and spring failure Clean the pointer shaft, lubricate and replace the spring
Low rebound value Bending of the striking rod and excessive friction of the pointer Correct the firing rod and adjust the tightness of the pointer
The dial reading is blurry Oil pollution, worn scale lines Clean the dial and replace it with a new one
Abnormal sound during bounce Loose internal components and broken firing rod Tighten the screws and replace the impact rod
Cannot zero Zero adjustment screw damaged, pointer spring broken Replace the zero adjustment screw and pointer spring

6、 Safety operation standards

  1. personal protectionWear a safety helmet and goggles during operation to prevent concrete debris from splashing and injuring people.
  2. Prohibited matters
    • Do not use the instrument as a hammer to strike objects.
    • Prohibited for outdoor use in rainy or humid environments.
  3. Children and unrelated individualsNon professionals are prohibited from operating the instrument to avoid damage or personal injury caused by misoperation.

7、 Maintenance and upkeep records

  1. Record contentIncluding calibration date, calibration value, repair parts, replacement part model, etc.
  2. Archive preservationPaper records and electronic archives shall be stored synchronously, with a retention period not less than the service life of the instrument (usually 5-10 years).
  3. data analysisRegularly analyze and calibrate data trends to identify potential issues in advance (such as persistently low calibration values that may indicate wear on the firing rod).

By strictly implementing the above maintenance measures, the measurement accuracy of the concrete rebound gauge can remain stable within ± 1.0 range for a long time, with a failure rate reduced by more than 60% and a service life extended to 8-10 years. It is recommended that testing agencies or construction units establish standardized maintenance procedures and regularly train operators to master maintenance skills.
