The annual production of urban household waste in China is 140 million tons, and the per capita annual production of household waste in cities is 440 kilograms (higher than the per capita waste production in some European countries). However, less than 10% of them can meet the requirements of harmless treatment, and the phenomenon of garbage encirclement is quite common. At present, landfill is the main method of garbage disposal in China. However, simple landfill not only affects the urban landscape, but also pollutes the atmosphere, water, and soil with gases and leachate released from the garbage. Especially, industrial hazardous waste is more harmful than general solid waste, and has the characteristics of difficult to predict pollution consequences and difficult disposal technology, which has become a major hidden danger of environmental pollution. Therefore, toxicity leaching experiments and analysis of garbage must be conducted before landfilling.
Leaching experiment is a field or laboratory simulation of the natural process in which solid waste containing harmful substances is leached into water during stacking or disposal, causing the migration and transformation of harmful substances and polluting the environment. The identification of leaching toxicity of solid waste is the basis for determining hazardous waste and an important technical link in the development of solid waste management and disposal technology.
