The electromagnetic pulse of the guided wave radar level gauge propagates at the speed of light, which travels along the steel cable or probe. When it encounters the surface of the measured medium, some of the pulses of the guided wave radar level gauge are reflected to form echoes and return to the pulse emitting device along the same path. The distance between the transmitting device of the guided wave radar level gauge and the surface of the measured medium is proportional to the propagation time of the pulse on the surface of the measured medium, and the polarity and amplitude of the echo depend on the dielectric constant ε r of the upper and lower media. The measurement of guided wave radar level gauge is not affected by the shape of the tank body, nor is it affected by the dielectric constant, temperature, pressure and density.
