Introduction of Argus Company in Germany:

ARGUS was founded in October 1990 in Oldenburg, Germany. In 1995, J.R. Gutkuhn joined the company as a partner and technical engineer, holding 50% of the company's shares. In September 2001, ARGUS company moved to Lille, near Bremen, Germany, and J.R. Gutkuhn became the sole owner of the company. ARGUS is a manufacturer, consultant, and system designer of ocean observation and environmental measurement instruments and equipment. Its main products include: turbidity profiler ASM series, digital transmission power supply rotary ring DSP, wave gauge AWG, wireless data acquisition and acquisition software, pump controller, etc.

The instrument is equipped with an 850nm infrared laser reflection sensor (backscatter infrared laser sensor-850nm) every 1cm inside the titanium alloy rod, resulting in nearly 100 sensors per meter. Each sensor consists of an infrared laser emitter and a detector. The sample volume measured by each sensor depends on the concentration of suspended solids, with a maximum sampling volume of 10cm3 and a measurement distance ranging from 0-100mm in front of each sensor.

High quality infrared laser emitters and optical filtering functions can effectively prevent interference from external light and sunlight, and can also work in intertidal zones (where instruments are exposed to sunlight during low tide). The instrument is inserted into the seabed and is suitable for observing the dynamic changes of sediment and suspended solids in the 1-2m space above the seabed. Based on the profile data, the dynamic processes between water flow, silt, and seabed can be understood, and time series analysis can be carried out to obtain settlement velocity, etc.

The instrument comes with three types of sensors:

1. A inclinometer used to sense the tilt angle between the instrument and the earth

2. A pressure sensor used to record the depth and tidal changes of the instrument underwater

3. A temperature sensor that records the temperature of the environment.

The instrument head (diameter 60mm, see figure on the right) has a sealed central unit consisting of a microprocessor, data storage, temperature sensor, tilt sensor, pressure sensor, and power supply, which is used to control the start-up of the sensors, power supply, and signal transmission of the entire instrument.

ASM-V has very low power consumption, less than 6mAs. If the sampling rate is set to 10 samples per 5 minutes, a 9V alkaline battery can provide continuous operation for two months and standby mode for six months. The internal microprocessor processes and stores the collected data, with a built-in standard 8M memory.

The IRDA serial communication module is integrated at the head of the instrument, and this optical communication window can be seen from the top of the casing. Device communication does not require opening the instrument casing. Use ASMA series software to measure and set up instruments, as well as read data.
