What are the precautions for safety light barriers
Date: 2025-11-24Read: 2

As an industrial safety protection equipment, the use of safety gratings must strictly follow the following precautions to ensure personnel safety and stable equipment operation:

1、 Installation and commissioning phase

  1. Cover dangerous areas and avoid blind spots
Before installation, a risk assessment is required to identify potential hazardous areas and ensure that the light curtain of the grating covers these areas. For example, when installing next to a stamping machine, it is necessary to cover the falling range of the mold to prevent personnel from entering by mistake.

  2. Choose the appropriate installation location and method

    • positionAvoid direct sunlight, high temperatures, or water mist interference. If necessary, choose anti-interference models (such as waterproof, dustproof, and vibration proof).
    • methodChoose fixed installation, mobile installation, or adjustable installation based on device type. For example, on an automated production line, adjustable installations may be required to accommodate different workstation requirements.
  3. Strictly follow the installation manual

    • When assembling brackets and products, follow the instructions in the manual to ensure a stable structure.
    • When drilling and fixing, it is necessary to avoid key components of the equipment to prevent scratching the grating or affecting worker operations.
  4. Correct wiring and debugging

    • The wiring of the transmitter, receiver, and controller must be strictly operated according to the instructions to avoid short circuits or signal interference.
    • During debugging, it is necessary to adjust the transmitting and receiving devices to the same level to ensure beam alignment. It can be tested through trial operation, such as blocking each beam with foreign objects, to check whether the alarm or shutdown function is normal.

2、 Usage and Operation Stage

  1. Prohibit unauthorized blocking or bypassing
    • Under no circumstances should the safety grating be blocked without authorization. If it needs to be temporarily stopped (such as for maintenance), it is necessary to contact the equipment and safety department for confirmation and set up warning signs.
    • Operators are not allowed to bypass the grating and enter the danger zone, otherwise it may cause mechanical injury.
  2. Regular functional testing
    • Perform a shading test before starting up daily to ensure system sensitivity. For example, cover the light beam with a piece of paper and observe whether the equipment immediately stops or alarms.
    • Regularly inspect cable connections, optoelectronic components, and mechanical structures to ensure no damage or looseness.
  3. Provide operational training and warning signs
    • Train operators to understand the function, working principle, and emergency stop procedure of gratings.
    • Set clear signs around the grating, such as "safe area, no entry" and "emergency stop button position".

3、 Maintenance and upkeep phase

  1. Regular cleaning and inspection
    • Clean the optical window to prevent dust, dirt, or grease from blocking the light beam and affecting detection accuracy.
    • Check the stability of the wiring to avoid signal interruption caused by poor contact.
  2. Avoid impact and vibration
    • Place the grating in a location that is less susceptible to impact, such as away from vibration sources (such as punch presses, vibrating screens).
    • When transporting or moving equipment, it is necessary to protect the grating to prevent collision damage.
  3. Control environmental conditions
    • Keep the environment dry, ventilated, and at a suitable temperature (usually -10 ℃ to 50 ℃) to avoid component aging caused by humidity, high or low temperatures.
    • Avoid environments with flammable and explosive gases to prevent accidents caused by electric sparks.
  4. Regular calibration and professional maintenance
    • Regularly calibrate the sensitivity of the grating to ensure detection accuracy. For example, it should be calibrated by professionals every six months or one year.
    • Non professionals are prohibited from disassembling or modifying the grating to avoid damaging the internal structure or affecting performance.

4、 Special scenario precautions

  1. Cascade system installation
    • If multiple pairs of grating cascades are used (such as long-distance protection), it is necessary to ensure that the transmitter and receiver are correctly combined to avoid signal interference or detection failure.
  2. power management
    • The power supply voltage needs to be stable (usually 24V DC) to avoid excessive or insufficient voltage affecting the operation of the grating.
    • Turn off the grating power supply in a timely manner before a power outage to prevent damage caused by sudden power outages.
  3. Record and Document Management
    • Record installation dates, maintenance records, and test results, and retain user manuals, technical specifications, and other documents provided by the manufacturer for easy traceability and troubleshooting.
