How to solve the malfunction of the gate opening meter

When the gate opening meter malfunctions, targeted solutions can be taken based on the type of fault and the type of opening meter (built-in or external), as follows:
 1、 Fault type determination
1. Display deviation
Phenomenon: The displayed value of the opening gauge does not match the actual position of the gate.
Possible reasons: loose cable connection, incorrect PLC program parameters, sensor malfunction.
2. No display or signal interruption
Phenomenon: The opening meter has no data display or communication interruption.
Possible reasons: power failure, cable breakage, and damage to the instrument body.
3. Measurement error
Phenomenon: The displayed value of the opening meter fluctuates greatly or deviates from the actual value beyond the allowable range.
Possible reasons: Loose reflector, infrared light reflection deviation, environmental interference (such as vibration, dust).
2、 Targeted solutions
 1. Built in opening gauge (installed inside the oil cylinder)
Characteristics: Easily affected by external factors during the operation of gate valves, unable to be maintained on a daily basis, and requiring return to the factory for repair in case of malfunction.
Solution steps:
Preliminary inspection: Confirm that the appearance of the opening gauge is not damaged and whether it is firmly fixed.
Cable inspection: Check whether the wiring of the opening sensor cable head is correct, whether the cable head is made in a standardized manner, and whether the cable conduit is properly handled and grounded.
PLC program inspection: Check whether the opening and measurement value conversion parameters are correct through PLC programming software and configuration software.
Equipment replacement: If it is confirmed that the opening meter itself is faulty, it is necessary to replace it with an opening meter of the same model and reconnect it to the PLC system for debugging.
2. External aperture meter (such as laser rangefinder)
Characteristics: Installed on the outside of the oil cylinder, it is susceptible to external factors such as loose base fasteners and reflection plate jumping.
 Solution steps:
Preliminary inspection: Confirm that the appearance of the opening gauge is not damaged and whether it is firmly fixed.
Reflection plate inspection: Check if the reflection plate is loose or jumping, causing infrared light reflection to deflect.
Technical improvements:
Choose diffuse reflection type laser generator to reduce dependence on reflector accuracy.
Choose customized reflective panels to improve reflection stability.
Calibration and tuning:
Re calibrate the 4-20mA signal and distance through the instrument body buttons.
Re adjust the conversion parameters of opening and measurement values through PLC program.
3、 General solution measures
Reconnect the cable
If the opening meter itself has no faults but displays deviations, it may be due to loose cable connections or poor contact. At this point, it is necessary to reconnect the cable and ensure a secure connection.
  Debugging of PLC program and configuration software
Correct display deviations through PLC programming software and configuration software to ensure correct conversion parameters for opening and measurement values.
Fault diagnosis and protection function
Utilize the fault diagnosis function of the gate opening meter to detect and stop the machine in a timely manner, avoiding the escalation of accidents. For example, if the opening value still appears when the gate reaches the bottom, it can be judged to stop the machine in a timely manner by "the gate height change rate is too small".
Regular maintenance and upkeep
Regularly clean the dust on the aperture sensor lens and keep the reflector clean.
Check if the opening gauge is securely fixed to avoid looseness caused by vibration.
4、 Preventive measures
  Choose equipment with strong anti-interference ability
Prioritize selecting aperture testers with anti-interference certifications (such as CE, UL) to reduce the impact of electromagnetic interference.
  Optimize installation environment
Avoid installing the aperture meter near the vibration source or using shock absorbers to reduce the impact of vibration.
 Strengthen spare parts management
Reserve commonly used spare parts (such as reflectors and cables) to shorten the time for fault repair.
Train operators
Improve the operator's ability to identify faults in the opening meter, ensuring quick response and handling.
