According to the annual report of China Industrial Control Network, the popularity of servos and robots in the automation industry has declined. In addition, the ongoing heat of the China US trade war and the lack of a "ceasefire" and "end of war" have led to a general downturn in domestic manufacturing performance. However, according to statistics from Jingpu from January to April in the first half of the year, encoder performance has increased, mainly due to automation transformation. Industrial production enterprises need to complete automation transformation before government safety production inspections, otherwise they will face production suspension and rectification, or even factory closure.

Recently, Shandong Province announced that starting from May 21st, eight inspection teams will be dispatched to conduct remote inspections in eight cities with a large number of hazardous chemical production enterprises, including Dongying, Zibo, and Weifang, within a 10 day period. This heavyweight attack focuses on inspecting the implementation of the "three preventions" (leakage prevention, explosion prevention, and poisoning prevention) work of hazardous chemical production enterprises involving "two key and one major" (key regulated hazardous chemical processes, key regulated hazardous chemicals, and major hazard sources), as well as enterprise risk control, hidden danger investigation, safety investment, training and education, special operations, contractor management, tank area and filling operations, emergency management, and other aspects.
We were both surprised and fortunate to see this news, as Jingpu Company has just solved an automation renovation project for a customer in the Shandong region. The customer's requirements include tight deadlines, the ability to connect imported PLCs, and convenience for on-site workers to operate. After receiving the customer's request, we designed an application plan and went to the project site the next day.
This project is a calcium carbide furnace, which belongs to the nature of chemical electrolytic furnaces. Its usage environment is characterized by high current electrodes (20000 amperes), strong electric and magnetic fields, high dust (furnace ash) and high temperature. The automation transformation is aimed at creating a safer working environment for workers.

The characteristic of Canopen signal is strong anti-interference, especially for frequency conversion. The multi encoder bus type connection has fast speed and is suitable for multi axis and multi motor synchronous control.
The use of one controller and three CANOPEN encoders controls the walking position of the trolley through the first encoder. When the trolley is in place, the angle of the rotating device is adjusted through the second encoder. After the rotating angle is adjusted, the extension and retraction position of the guide arm is controlled through the third encoder. When the guide arm reaches its position in the calcium carbide furnace, it is guided and stirred inside the furnace. This application is a three-axis linkage synchronous control, which requires very high synchronization. At the same time, due to the harsh application environment, dust dispersion, and large vibration, a magneto electric value encoder is selected. The optical encoder may fail due to shaking or dust and water vapor, but using a magneto electric value encoder does not have this problem and greatly enhances reliability. Thus, it can meet the user's requirements for functionality and performance.
The encoder signal adopts CANOPEN output. We are a member unit of the CANopen organization CIA and have the certification issued by the association CIA*The ID manufacturer number can effectively avoid distinguishing manufacturer equipment when CANOPEN is connected to PLC, and the CANOPEN signal has low grounding requirements, good fault tolerance and anti-interference, so it is very practical in heavy machinery.
Before the renovation of this project, the working environment was harsh and highly dangerous, and frontline workers were at risk of losing their lives while operating on site. Now, after the renovation, automated equipment has replaced manual operation, avoiding the danger of personnel work. On the one hand, automation transformation ensures the accuracy and safety reliability of motion control, considering personal safety as the top priority. On the other hand, automation transformation makes full use of raw materials and greatly reduces pollution emissions, achieving the goal of energy conservation and emission reduction.
It must be noted that during the inspection of high-risk production line operations, if there are errors in automated position control, it will lead to personal safety hazards. In the current situation where professional technical human resources are scarce and safety is highly valued, every step cannot be stopped or reversed. Life has no turning back, so the encoder data is required to be accurate!
Encoders that can be used in automation transformation require quality and reliability, and therefore need to have "three certificates of product quality". Automated transformation cannot be achieved by blindly using fake and inferior encoders for the sake of cheapness, because once something goes wrong, the original intention of the transformation will be lost.
