What are the common problems with HOHONER encoders
Date: 2025-09-22Read: 2
The common problems that may be encountered during the use of the HOHNER encoder include signal, installation, power supply, mechanical components, environmental interference, and more. The following is a specific introduction:

Signal issues

  1. Abnormal signal output

    • reasonThe circuit connecting the encoder to the device is broken, short circuited, or has poor contact; The electronic components of the encoder itself are damaged; The interface circuit on the device end is faulty.
    • performanceThe upper computer or control system displays encoder signal errors or no signal; Abnormal fluctuations in motor speed or inability to start normally.
  2. Unstable signal

    • reasonPoor cable connection; Power supply fluctuations; Electromagnetic interference.
    • performanceThe data fluctuates significantly, the equipment runs with jitter, and the accuracy decreases.
  3. communication failure

    • reasonCommunication protocol settings are incorrect; Communication line malfunction; The communication interface of the encoder is damaged.
    • performanceUnable to establish communication connection between the upper computer and the encoder, displaying error messages such as communication timeout; During the communication process, data transmission is unstable, resulting in packet loss, erroneous frames, and other situations.

Installation issues

  1. Improper installation

    • reasonDuring installation, the encoder shaft is not concentric with the drive shaft.
    • performanceEccentricity error occurs during operation, affecting measurement accuracy.
  2. Loose installation of encoder

    • reasonThe installation is not secure.
    • performance: Affects the accuracy of position control, causing excessive positional deviation during stopping and movement, and even generating servo system overload alarms as soon as the machine is turned on.

Power issue

  1. Encoder+5V power supply drops

    • reasonLoss caused by power supply failure or high resistance of power transmission cables.
    • performanceThe+5V power supply is too low, usually not lower than 4.75V, which causes the encoder to malfunction.
  2. Absolute encoder battery voltage drops

    • reasonThe battery is aging or running low.
    • performanceA clear and meaningful alarm requires battery replacement. If the reference point position memory is lost, the operation of returning to the reference point must also be performed.

Mechanical component issues

  1. Shaft wear or fracture

    • reasonLong term exposure to excessive loads; Poor installation concentricity; Poor lubrication.
    • performanceDuring the rotation process, the shaft is subjected to uneven force, resulting in wear and tear. In severe cases, it can break directly, causing the encoder to malfunction and resulting in equipment shutdown.
  2. Bearing damage

    • reasonLong term use; Improper installation; External impact.
    • performanceThe increase in rotational resistance and noise affects the rotational accuracy of the encoder and the accuracy of measurement data.

Environmental interference issues

  1. Grating pollution

    • reasonDust, oil stains, etc. enter the interior of the encoder.
    • performanceThe signal output amplitude has decreased, and the oil stains must be gently wiped off with degreasing cotton.
  2. The high-speed end of the encoder is not aligned or installed too tightly

    • reasonImproper installation.
    • performanceCausing wear and heat generation of the encoder's ball bearings, leakage of lubricating oil from the bearings contaminating the encoder disc, and subsequently affecting signal acquisition.
  3. Temperature too high

    • reasonThe ambient temperature is too high; Poor heat dissipation; Internal circuit short circuit.
    • performanceInternal components of the encoder overheat, causing electronic component failure or performance degradation.
