What are the precautions for infrared bus monitoring device
Date: 2025-06-26Read: 5
The infrared busbar monitoring device plays an important role in the power system, which can timely detect potential faults such as busbar overheating. To ensure its normal operation and effective monitoring, the following precautions should be taken when using it:

Installation phase

  • Environmental considerations
    • Avoid interference sourcesThe installation location should be away from strong electromagnetic fields, high-temperature heat sources, and strong vibration sources. For example, in substations, it is important to avoid installing devices near large transformers or high-voltage switchgear, as the strong electromagnetic fields generated by these devices may interfere with the normal operation of infrared thermography, resulting in inaccurate measurement data.
    • well-ventilatedEnsure good ventilation in the installation environment to avoid affecting the performance and lifespan of the device due to overheating. If the device is installed in a sealed cabinet, ventilation fans or heat dissipation holes should be installed to ensure air circulation.
  • Installation position and angle
    • Comprehensive coverage of the monitoring areaDuring installation, it is necessary to ensure that the infrared thermal imaging device can fully cover the monitoring area of the busbar without any blind spots. The installation position and angle of the device can be adjusted reasonably according to the layout and direction of the busbar. For example, for horizontally arranged busbars, the infrared thermal imager should be installed directly or diagonally above the busbar to capture clear thermal imaging images of the busbar.
    • avoid obstructionDuring the installation process, it is important to avoid other objects blocking the lens of the infrared thermal imager, such as cables, brackets, etc. If the lens is obstructed, it can cause incomplete or abnormal thermal imaging images.
  • electrical connection
    • Correct wiringStrictly follow the wiring diagram of the device for electrical connections, ensuring that power lines, signal lines, and other connections are correct and error free. Incorrect wiring may cause damage or malfunction of the device. For example, reversing the polarity of the power cord may burn out the power module inside the device.
    • Well groundedThe device must be reliably grounded to prevent damage from static electricity and lightning strikes. The grounding resistance should comply with relevant standards and generally not exceed 4 Ω.

debugging phase

  • Parameter Settings
    • Accurately set the thresholdAccurately set temperature warning and alarm thresholds based on the normal operating temperature range and actual requirements of the busbar. Setting the threshold too high may result in the inability to detect potential overheating faults in a timely manner, while setting it too low may lead to excessive false alarms. For example, for a certain type of busbar, if the temperature does not exceed 70 ℃ during normal operation, the warning threshold can be set to 65 ℃ and the alarm threshold can be set to 70 ℃.
    • Calibration and CalibrationRegularly calibrate and calibrate the infrared thermal imager to ensure the accuracy of measurement data. The infrared thermal imager can be calibrated using a standard blackbody radiation source, and the parameters of the device can be adjusted based on the calibration results.
  • functional testing
    • Comprehensive testing functionalityConduct comprehensive testing on various functions of the device, including temperature monitoring, fault warning and alarm, historical data storage and analysis, image display and recording, remote monitoring and management, etc. Ensure that the device can function properly in all situations. For example, simulating an abnormal increase in bus temperature and checking whether the device can issue warning and alarm signals in a timely manner.
    • Communication testTest whether the communication between the testing device and the remote monitoring center is normal to ensure accurate and timely transmission of data. Network testing tools can be used to check the connectivity and data transmission rate of communication links.

runtime

  • routine inspection
    • Check the equipment statusRegularly conduct daily inspections of the device, check whether the operating status indicator lights are normal, and whether there are any abnormal sounds or odors. If the indicator light flashes abnormally or there is an odor, the machine should be stopped for inspection in a timely manner.
    • View thermal imaging imagesCheck the infrared thermal imaging image and observe whether the temperature distribution of the busbar is normal. If abnormal high-temperature areas are found in the image, further analysis and processing should be carried out in a timely manner.
  • data maintenance
    • Regularly backup dataRegularly backup the historical data stored in the device to prevent data loss. Data can be backed up to external storage devices or cloud servers.
    • Clean up storage spaceWhen the storage space is insufficient, timely clean up unnecessary historical data to ensure the normal operation of the device.
  • Fault handling
    • Timely response to alarmsWhen the device issues a warning or alarm signal, the operation and maintenance personnel should respond promptly and quickly arrive at the scene for inspection and handling. When dealing with faults, it is necessary to strictly follow the operating procedures to ensure personal and equipment safety.
    • Analyze the cause of the malfunctionConduct a detailed analysis of the fault, identify the cause, and take corresponding measures to repair it. For example, if it is found that the overheating is caused by loose busbar joints, the joints should be tightened in a timely manner; If it is a malfunction of the infrared thermal imaging device, the manufacturer should be contacted promptly for repair or replacement.

Maintenance phase

  • Cleaning and maintenance
    • Clean the lensRegularly clean the lens of the infrared thermal imaging camera to remove dust and stains on the surface of the lens. Special lens cleaner and soft lens paper can be used for cleaning, avoiding the use of rough fabrics or chemical solvents to avoid scratching the lens.
    • Clean the shellWipe the outer shell of the device with a damp cloth to remove dust and stains. Be careful not to let water enter the interior of the device.
  • regular maintenance
    • Check component performanceRegularly inspect and maintain various components of the device, such as power modules, communication modules, sensors, etc. Check whether the performance of the components is normal, whether there is aging or damage. If any problems are found with the components, they should be replaced promptly.
    • software upgradePay attention to the manufacturer's software upgrade information and upgrade the device's software in a timely manner. Software upgrades can fix known vulnerabilities and improve device performance and stability.
