How to maintain PCI fiber optic card
Date: 2025-10-09Read: 18
The maintenance of PCI fiber optic cards needs to be carried out systematically from five aspects: hardware maintenance, interface cleaning, operation specifications, environmental control, and storage management. The specific maintenance items are as follows

1、 Hardware maintenance: Ensure stable operation of components

  1. Regular inspection and fastening
    • Check the fixing of the PCI fiber card in the motherboard slot every six months or quarterly. If any looseness is found, it needs to be re plugged and tightened to avoid signal interruption caused by poor contact.
    • Check the components on the card (such as capacitors, chips) for bulges, cracks, or burn marks, and replace them immediately if any abnormalities are found.
  2. Power supply and voltage monitoring
    • Measure the supply voltage monthly using a digital voltmeter or a multimeter with an accuracy of 1% to ensure stability within the rated range (e.g. 5V ± 5%).
    • If the voltage fluctuation exceeds ± 10%, it is necessary to check the power circuit or add a voltage regulator to prevent component damage due to overvoltage/undervoltage.
  3. Heat dissipation optimization
    • Clean the dust on the heat sink and chassis fan on the card, replace the chassis filter every three months, and maintain air circulation.
    • In high-temperature environments (such as summer), auxiliary cooling fans can be added or thermal grease can be used to improve chip heat dissipation.

2、 Interface cleaning: reduce signal loss

  1. Special cleaning of fiber optic interface
    • Tool selectionUse a dedicated fiber optic cleaning pen, dust-free wiping paper, or anti-static absorbent cloth to avoid residual fibers from ordinary cotton swabs or tissues.
    • Operating SpecificationsClean the end face according to the principle of "one-way wiping, avoiding repetition", and clean it before and after inserting and unplugging optical fibers to prevent signal attenuation caused by micrometer level pollutants (such as oil and dust).
    • deep processingIf scratches or contamination on the end face cannot be removed, it is necessary to replace the IP67 industrial connector (with high dust and water resistance) and install a dust cap in heavily polluted environments (such as chemical plants).
  2. PCI slot cleaning
    • Use compressed air to blow away dust from the slot and avoid oxidation of metal contacts.
    • If the contact turns black, gently wipe it with a cotton swab and wait for it to dry before inserting the card again.

3、 Operation standard: prevent human damage

  1. Anti-static measures
    • Wear a properly grounded ESD wristband before operation to avoid electrostatic breakdown of the chip by the human body.
    • In dry environments (such as winter), you can first touch metal objects to release static electricity, and then touch the equipment.
  2. Hot plug taboo
    • It is strictly prohibited to plug or unplug PCI fiber optic cards with power on. The host power must be turned off before operating the card.
    • Apply even force during insertion and removal to avoid tilting and damaging the slot or card's golden fingers.
  3. data protection
    • Before replacing or upgrading the card, backup the driver and configuration files to prevent data loss.
    • If there is a RAM module on the card, it needs to be operated after power off and the module battery should be checked for normal operation (removing the module when the battery fault light is on can cause data loss).

4、 Environmental control: Extend service life

  1. Temperature and humidity management
    • The operating environment temperature is controlled at 0 ℃~50 ℃, the storage temperature is -25 ℃~55 ℃, and the humidity is 5%~95% (without condensation).
    • In humid environments (such as the southern rainy season), use dehumidifiers or desiccants to prevent card components from getting damp and short circuiting.
  2. Dust and corrosion prevention
    • In scenarios where the sealing of the chassis is poor (such as factory workshops), it is necessary to install dust-proof nets or use positive pressure dust-proof chassis.
    • Avoid contact of card components with corrosive gases such as chlorine and hydrogen sulfide, and if necessary, use sealed enclosures or nitrogen protection.
  3. Vibration and impact protection
    • Install damping brackets and fixing clips in areas with frequent mechanical vibrations, such as production lines and equipment bases, to avoid direct contact with metal edges.
    • When transporting or moving equipment, use shockproof packaging materials to prevent deformation of the card due to impact.

5、 Storage management: Ensuring spare parts performance

  1. Short term storage
    • Put the spare card into an anti-static bag, hang it vertically or place it flat on a dry and ventilated shelf to avoid pressure on the golden fingers.
    • The storage environment temperature is controlled at 15 ℃~30 ℃, and the humidity is 30%~60%.
  2. Long term storage
    • Power on once every six months (running for 1-2 hours) to prevent capacitor aging.
    • When storing for more than 1 year, check the battery voltage on the card and replace it if it is lower than the rated value.
  3. scrap disposal
    • Cards containing batteries must be recycled according to local environmental regulations and cannot be discarded at will.
    • Before scrapping, use demagnetization equipment to clear stored data and prevent information leakage.
