Analysis of High Temperature Cable Technology: Materials, Structures, and Applications
Date: 2025-06-03Read: 3
high-temperature cableIt is a special cable designed specifically for high-temperature environments, capable of stably transmitting power or signals under temperature conditions, and widely used in key fields such as metallurgy, power, petrochemicals, aerospace, nuclear energy, etc. This article will provide an in-depth analysis of high-temperature cable technology from four aspects: material selection, structural design, performance characteristics, and application scenarios.
1、 Material selection
The core performance of high-temperature cables depends on the material selection of their conductors, insulation layers, filling materials, and sheath layers.
Conductor material: The conductor of high-temperature cables usually uses multi strand soft copper conductors, which have good conductivity and certain high temperature resistance. The multi strand soft copper design not only improves the flexibility and flexibility of the cable, but also helps with heat dissipation, reduces the increase in conductor resistance at high temperatures, and ensures the stability of current transmission.
Insulation material: The insulation layer is a key part of high-temperature cables and needs to have excellent characteristics such as high temperature resistance, wear resistance, and corrosion resistance. Common insulation materials include fluoroplastics (such as perfluoroalkoxy F46, soluble polytetrafluoroethylene PFA) and silicone rubber. Fluoroplastics have excellent high temperature resistance, low temperature resistance, and corrosion resistance, and are commonly used insulation materials in aerospace and other environments; Silicone rubber has good elasticity, high and low temperature resistance, aging resistance, acid and alkali resistance, and is widely used in industrial equipment, high-temperature environments, and other fields.
Filling material: Filling material is usually made of non hygroscopic materials such as glass fiber, used to fill the gaps between conductors and insulation layers, and enhance the structural stability of cables.
Sheath material: the sheath layer is the outermost protective layer of the cable, which shall be resistant to high temperature, corrosion, aging and other characteristics. Fluoroplastics and silicone rubber are commonly used as sheath materials for high-temperature cables due to their excellent high-temperature resistance and mechanical strength.
2、 Structural Design
The structural design of high-temperature cables should fully consider their usage environment and performance requirements, usually including conductors, insulation layers, shielding layers (if necessary), filling layers, and sheath layers.
Conductor structure: The conductor is made of multiple strands of soft copper twisted together to improve the flexibility and heat dissipation performance of the cable.
Insulation layer structure: The insulation layer is made by extrusion molding or casting molding to ensure that the thickness and quality of the insulation layer meet the requirements. For applications that require higher levels of protection, a double-layer insulation structure can be used.
Shielding layer structure: In situations where electromagnetic interference needs to be reduced, cables will be designed with a shielding layer, often in the form of copper wire weaving or copper tape wrapping.
Filling layer structure: The filling layer is used to fill the gap between the conductor and the insulation layer, enhance the structural stability of the cable, and prevent damage to the insulation layer due to vibration or bending.
Sheath layer structure: The sheath layer is prepared using a method similar to that of the insulation layer to ensure that the thickness and quality of the protective sheath meet the requirements. Wear resistance, corrosion resistance and aging resistance shall also be considered in the design of sheath layer.
3、 Performance characteristics
High temperature cables have the following significant performance characteristics:
High temperature resistance performance: High temperature cables can work stably in high temperature environments for a long time, and their insulation and sheath materials can withstand high temperatures of hundreds or even thousands of degrees Celsius without failure.
Electrical performance: High temperature cables have excellent electrical performance, including low resistance, high insulation resistance, and low dielectric loss, ensuring the efficiency and stability of power or signal transmission.
Physical properties: High temperature cables have good flexibility and wear resistance, and can adapt to complex working environments; Meanwhile, its long service life reduces the frequency of maintenance and replacement.
Corrosion resistance: The insulation and sheath materials of high-temperature cables have excellent corrosion resistance and can resist the erosion of corrosive media such as acid, alkali, and salt.
Explosion proof performance: Some high-temperature cables also have explosion-proof function, suitable for flammable and explosive places, ensuring the safety of personnel and equipment.
4、 Application scenarios
High temperature cables are widely used in the following fields:
In the field of metallurgy, high-temperature cables can withstand high temperatures and harsh environmental conditions during the smelting process, ensuring the stability and safety of electrical connections.
In the field of electricity, high-temperature cables are widely used in high-voltage and high-temperature power transmission and control systems in power facilities such as thermal power generation and nuclear power plants.
Petrochemical industry: The high temperature, high pressure, and corrosive environment in the petrochemical industry have high requirements for cables, and high-temperature cables precisely meet these needs.
Aerospace field: In aerospace vehicles, high-temperature cables need to withstand temperature changes and pressure to connect various sensors, engines, and navigation systems.
In the field of nuclear energy: In nuclear reactors, high-temperature cables need to withstand high radiation and heat to transmit electricity or control signals.
Automobile manufacturing industry: In the process of automobile manufacturing, high-temperature cables need to withstand the high temperature generated by the engine to transmit power or control signals.
high-temperature cableAs an important component of special cables, it plays an irreplaceable role in modern industry. With the continuous advancement of technology and the expansion of application fields, the performance and reliability of high-temperature cables will continue to improve, providing strong support for the development of various industries.
