What safety issues should be noted during the installation of explosion-proof thermal resistors

During the installation process of explosion-proof thermal resistors, it is necessary to strictly follow safety regulations to ensure the safety of personnel and equipment. The following are key precautions:1、 Installation environment and location selection
-
Explosion proof area matching
- Confirm that the installation environment meets the explosion-proof rating of the explosion-proof thermistor (such as Ex d, Ex i, etc.), and prohibit use in areas beyond the explosion-proof rating. For example, in flammable and explosive places such as petrochemicals, explosion-proof equipment that meets IECEx or ATEX certification should be selected.
- Avoid strong electromagnetic fields, vibration sources, or high-temperature areas (such as near high-power motors and frequency converters) to prevent interference with measurement accuracy or damage to equipment.
-
Selection of temperature measurement points
- Priority should be given to selecting locations that can represent the temperature of the measured medium, avoiding installation in temperature fluctuation areas such as valves, elbows, dead corners of pipelines, or inlet and outlet of heat exchangers.
- Ensure that the thermistor is in full contact with the medium, for example, when measuring temperature in pipelines, the insertion depth should be 1/2-2/3 of the pipeline diameter (such as 100mm for 200mm diameter), and in high-temperature and high-pressure fluid scenarios, it should be ≥ 75mm.
-
Vertical installation requirements
- Explosion proof thermistor should be installed vertically to avoid measurement errors caused by tilting. If the insertion depth exceeds 1m, a support frame should be installed to prevent the protective tube from breaking.
2、 Electrical connection and sealing protection
-
Explosion proof junction box and cable
- Use junction boxes that meet explosion-proof standards (such as Exd Ⅱ CT6 explosion-proof type) to ensure that the wiring is secure and well sealed, preventing sparks or arcs from leaking out.
- Choose shielded cables that are resistant to high temperatures and corrosion (such as fluoroplastic insulated cables) to avoid short circuits caused by wire damage or aging. The cable entry device should be intact, and the sealing ring should not be aged or deformed.
-
wiring method
- Prioritize the use of three wire or four wire connection methods to reduce the impact of wire resistance on measurement accuracy. The three wire system wiring must follow the identification rules of red (A+), red (A -), and blue (B).
- When wiring, avoid using a single thermistor in parallel with multiple instruments to prevent errors caused by uneven current distribution.
-
sealing treatment
- After installation, sealing treatment is required, using sealing tape or sealing gasket to ensure that there is no leakage at the interface. After installation in a high-pressure environment, an air tightness test should be conducted by holding the pressure at 1.5 times the working pressure for 10 minutes.
3、 Fixed and supporting measures
-
fixation method
- Select flange installation or threaded installation according to the scene. Installation of flanges requires the addition of asbestos gaskets and diagonal tightening of bolts; Threaded installation requires wrapping PTFE tape with a depth of ≥ 15mm.
- Vibration equipment (such as fans) should be equipped with spring shock absorber brackets to prevent the protective tube from breaking.
-
Support and Protection
- When the insertion depth exceeds 1m, it is necessary to install it vertically or install a support frame. The minimum bending radius of armored thermal resistance should be ≥ 5 times the diameter (such as the bending radius of a 6mm sleeve>30mm), and it is forbidden to forcefully twist the wire.
4、 Operating procedures and personnel protection
-
Power-off operation
- When conducting maintenance or replacement in hazardous areas, the power must be cut off and relevant safety regulations must be followed. It is strictly prohibited to open the cover for maintenance while it is live.
-
personnel training
- Operators need to undergo professional training, familiarize themselves with the performance, installation methods, and safety precautions of explosion-proof thermal resistors, and understand emergency plans (such as equipment failure or accident handling procedures).
-
protective equipment
- When operating in flammable and explosive environments, protective equipment (such as anti-static clothing, explosion-proof gloves, goggles) should be worn to prevent the accumulation of static electricity or sparks from causing accidents.
5、 Environmental adaptability measures
-
harshEnvironmental protection
- When used in corrosive media, choose corrosion-resistant protective sleeves (such as Hastelloy C276) or install anti-corrosion sleeves, and regularly check the anti-corrosion coating.
- Heat resistant materials (such as ceramic protective tubes) should be used in high-temperature areas to ensure good heat dissipation of the equipment.
- Outdoor or humid environments require confirmation that the junction box has a waterproof rating of IP67 to prevent cold air or rainwater from entering.
-
Cleaning and Maintenance
- Regularly clean the surface of the thermistor to avoid dust and dirt affecting measurement accuracy. Do not use corrosive solvents during cleaning to prevent damage to the protective layer.
- Regularly check the sealing condition of the junction box and promptly deal with any rust or damage found.
