Installation method and precautions for drag chain cable
Date: 2025-05-19Read: 2

Installation method of drag chain cable

  1. Determine installation location and measurement dimensions
    • Clearly define the moving parts and transmission channels, and choose vertical, horizontal, or diagonal installation methods according to requirements.
    • Measure the travel and movement range of moving parts, determine the cable length, and reserve bending radius and remaining length space to avoid cable damage during movement.
  2. Install brackets and drag chains
    • Install fixed or sliding brackets on moving parts and transmission channels to ensure secure installation.
    • Install the drag chain along the bracket to ensure a stable connection between the connector and the moving parts.
  3. Install cables
    • Import the cable from the entrance of the drag chain and gradually arrange it along the drag chain. Pay attention to the cable bending radius and the height of the protective guide rail to meet the requirements and prevent excessive bending and compression.
    • The cables need to be laid loosely side by side in the drag chain, separated by spacers or inserted into the empty space of the bracket, with a gap between the cables of at least 10% of the cable diameter.
    • Heavy cables are placed on both sides of the drag chain, while light cables are distributed in the middle. 30% of the space needs to be reserved in the drag chain, and the cable occupies 70% of the drag chain.
  4. connecting cable
    • Connect the cable terminals to the power and signal equipment to ensure reliable and stable connection, avoiding pulling and excessive tension.
  5. Testing and Adjustment
    • After installation, test the movement status and transmission capacity of the drag chain cable, and make necessary adjustments and corrections to ensure normal operation.

Installation precautions for drag chain cables

  1. Avoid cable twisting
    • When laying, the cable cannot be untied from one end of the cable drum or cable reel. The cable should be unfolded by rotating the drum or cable reel first, and if necessary, the cable can be unfolded or hung up to ensure that the cable is naturally stretched.
  2. Pay attention to bending radius
    • The installation radius should not be less than 6 times the diameter of the cable (some models require higher, such as 10 times), ensuring that the cable moves within the bending radius and cannot be forced to move.
  3. Reasonably arrange cables
    • The cables must be laid loosely and side by side in the drag chain, separated as much as possible, separated by spacers or inserted into the separation holes of the support brackets. The gap between the cables should be at least 10% of the cable diameter to avoid contact or entanglement.
  4. Fixed cable at both ends
    • The two ends of the cable must be fixed, or at least fixed at the moving end of the drag chain. The distance between the moving point of a general cable and the end of the drag chain should be 20-30 times the diameter of the cable to prevent the cable from slipping or being excessively stretched during movement.
  5. Reserved space and inspection and maintenance
    • The drag chain needs to reserve 30% of the space, and the cable can only occupy 70% of the drag chain to ensure that the cable can move freely during mechanical operation.
    • Regularly check the position and condition of cables, especially after pushing and pulling, and promptly detect and replace aging or damaged cables.
